US Approves Major F-15 Fighter Jet Sale to Saudi Arabia
According to official notifications, the proposed Foreign Military Sale, which includes sustainment services and related equipment for the aircraft, has met certification requirements and has been formally submitted to Congress for review.
As stated in the announcement, "This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a Major non-NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Gulf Region." The statement further emphasized that "The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the military balance in the region."
The approval follows a separate decision made last week, when Washington cleared another potential arms package for Saudi Arabia involving Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missiles and associated systems, a deal estimated to be worth $9 billion, according to reports.
